Rotary Putting Life-Saving Devices in the Hands of First Responders with Project Heart ReStart

Join the Rotary Club of Florence, serving all of Boone County (@FlorenceRotary), on Monday, August 12, 2024, at noon to hear Joshua Vogel detail the work of Project Heart ReStart and their efforts to equip police vehicles across the Greater Cincinnati region with lifesaving automated external defibrillators.

Joshua Vogel is a member of the Rotary Club of Cincinnati and a committee member of Project Heart ReStart: AED Readiness for First Responders. Josh is employed by Terracon Consultants and serves as a group manager in the environmental department. He is a proud graduate of Silver Grove High School and Thomas More University. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three year old daughter.

Project Heart ReStart is a community outreach program of The Christ Hospital Health Network dedicated to reducing the death rate of sudden cardiac arrest in Greater Cincinnati. The program provides cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training, automated external defibrillator (AED) training, increased access to publicly-placed AEDs and greater awareness of sudden cardiac arrest. Since 2006, Project Heart ReStart has trained more than 6,500 people in CPR.

A related program, Project Heart ReStart: AED Readiness for First Responders is entering Phase 3 (Northern Kentucky). In “Phase 1,” their committee worked with the Rotary Club of Cincinnati along with several other key partners to raise funds for over 230 AEDs with which to equip Hamilton County Sheriff vehicles as, more often than not, the police are the first to arrive on the scene of an emergency. Since installation in November 2023, officers have used the donated devices seven times, saving lives that may have otherwise been lost to a cardiac event. The project’s “Phase 2,” with a goal to supply AED units to the City of Cincinnati and the 25 surrounding communities, is in its final stages.

Project Heart Restart is now teaming with the Northern Kentucky Rotary Clubs to launch Phase 3 and make Boone, Campbell and Kenton Counties the first heart ready counties in Kentucky! Anyone interested in donating, can do so here.

Guests are always welcome to join, meet members and learn about the club.
